Who am I ?

How can you quickly and easily find the correct size of straps?

Measure you head around the middle of the forehead with one finger under the tape measure.

This will be your strap size, but without gloves.

Hello Valery,

As I am new to coaching gym and to settle some arguments in our club, can you please give me some help, can you give me exact definitions and some examples of the following -

A leap series

A dance series

A gym series

An acro series

A gym acro gym series

passe developee

a salto series

Thanks

Judi Clayton Bedale gym club

Hi, Judi. It is very interesting question. From the point of view of a new Judging code, a dancing series and a gymnastic series is same. They can include jumps, leaps, hops, turns, etc.

For example:

cat leap jump - hop with free leg above horizontal;

split leap - tuck jump;

split leap with change legs - wolf jump;

1/1 turn on one leg - straddle jump, etc.

A leap series:

split leap - split leap with change legs;

scissors leap forward or backward - cat leap, etc

A acro series:

any combination rools, walkovers, cartwheels,round-off, flicks, "valdez", saltos.

A gym acro gym series:

cat leap - cartwheel with 1/4 turn - wolf jump;

tuck jump - flightspring - cat leap, etc.

A salto series:

salto forward - salto backward;

gainer salto backward stretched - salto backward tucked, etc.

A passe developee:

can be made forward, sideward and backward.

I will be very glad if my answer can help you.

I was looking at you site and would like to congratulate you on the site, it is very informative.  Have you however any tips on forward roll on beam.  It seems to be a blind spot for my daughter, who can do them perfectly on the floor beam but not when it comes to full size beam.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

From Stephen Henshaw

Points to watch for on a forward roll

 Focus on the end of the beam.

 legs must be pushed straight before roll

lifting the hips high in the air.

rolling on top of spine not head

again focusing on the end of the beam through out

if the gymnast can perform perfectly on floor beam this could not be a problem of the forward roll but a mental block

try crash mats under beam to beam hight then gradually lowering mats also the

use of a thin mat on the beam  could help confidence.

The way to be able to do a forward roll on the beam is to look straight down at the end of the beam and keep stiring at it and roll over and as you come up you should be still looking at the end of the beam it works for me hope it helps

Hello!

I used to have troubles doing forward roll on beam. But now I can do it. My coach told me to look forward at the end of the beam. Lift my hips high in the air and roll straight. Then to continue rolling forward and quickly push myself forward to a standing position. I used to be to scared because it seemed so high up and I was afraid it would hurt if I fell off. So I put some mats all over the floor below the beam. It made the beam seem closer to the ground, not so high. Sooner or later I got less and less scared. Now I can usually do forward rolls on beam.

I am doing a sport project on related to fear when doing a cartwheel on the beam. I was wondering if you had any advice on what causes fear and how to overcome it.

Any information you have related to this topic would be very useful if you could send it to me.
Thank you
Emma Gardner

If any body wants to help on this subject of fear, please e-mail myself and I will post your answer on my page.

Can anyone help with tips for squating on to the  bar in preparation of jumping to high bar. We have a gymnasts who has a lazy right leg and knees apart. Any help most grateful. Angela Nelson.

Answers your question Claire Wood from Greenhead gymnastics club. I hope it will help you.

1. Lots of squat on's onto low bench with glove/sock between knees.
-making sure shoulders are forward and bottom lifts upwards in the air-
2. Move onto slightly higher box when this becomes easier and legs and knees stay together. Progress and make it higher.
3. On low bar with boxes/ mats piled right up to bar, same exercises with glove/sock between knees. This time with a jump off.
4.When this is done easily lower mats/boxes down. Still looking for bottom lifting high and shoulders forward.
5. Squat on low bar with support with glove/sock between legs. Looking for strong cast - better to do 5x10 casts towards a horizontal - help.
- Confidence and make the squat on easier-
6. Then on her own when ready.
7. On floor bar/low bar with mats piled up - get gymnast to balance on bar for 5 secs. and fouls on high bar, then jump off.

hi there, i really wanted to thank you for being able
to help me as written in your website.
your website is good with well detailed pictures!!
but those moves are too hard for me now, i am still a
beginner.

May i ask how do i improve on my pommel horse? i can
only do 1-3 rounds. never gone further than that. and
what must i do so that i can flare on the ground?

Thank you very much!

Hi, Jing.
Your question is answered by the second coach of world champion Jury Korolyov -
Gennady Tsyganov.
Hi, Jing.
 It seems to me, that at yours hands and shoulders muscles are not strong
enough  and you not so well own skill of carry of weight of a body from one handle
of a horse on another.
 The following some exercises can help you.
1.15-20 simple swings one leg forward and back in one approach.
2.20-30 circles with legs(foots) put in a bucket (the usual bucket,
 is suspended on a cord above a horse.)
3. Carries of weight of a body from one hand on another from back support -
 hands on a floor, a foot on an eminence (for example on a gymnastic bench)
 and it is necessary with a straight body.
4. Too exercise, only the face downwards.
I wish good look, Gennady.
Let me know if it will help you.
Cheers, Valery

Let me know if it will help you.

THIS GYMNAST NEED  HELP !

ANY ADVICE OR RECOMMENDATION ON THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATE

Hey!!!!

I have a few questions I would like to ask you.
I'm a good gymnast, but every time we start learning new stuff I'm always scared! And I hate it!! Do you have any advice for me to cure that?

There's also another problem, I practice very hard, especially before competitions. Then there's this other girl she doesn't nearly practice as hard as I do, but when we have competitions she always does better than me and I can't understand it????????

Hey,

  MY name is April and I am a 9 gymnast .I have the same problem with one of my team mates! She never works hard and yet she does well at competitions. But the way that I deal with that is just go on with my life the way that I want to because in the long run someone will notice it and then she will try to work hard and you will be left with the benefit! Just always keep it positive!!!

 Also, I have the same problem when I was learning my front giant and my release move. I was always soooooooo scared! But I soon learned this new trick. Cause when I do all of my skills now I just use this. “TUCK AND PRAY” it is so simple but if all seems to fail just remembers how much this sport means to u and how far you are willing to go!!!!

hello,

i need help competition season is getting ready to start and i have a consistent problem with some of my gymnasts that i have not been able to fix, their split leaps. i would appreciate it if you could give me some tips on this.

thank you,
amy
